To separate mineral oil from water in a simple way, use an oil separator. The size of a petrol separator depends on the quantities of oil and water. Oil separators are used in places where there is a greater chance of mineral oil being discharged. Think, for example, of washing passenger cars and trucks. But also at workshops where people tinker with motor vehicles or at a gas station.

The fuel separator
Oil and its related oil products, such as gasoline and diesel, are extremely dangerous and bad for the environment when exposed. Yet it is these oil products that are indispensable to keep our economy going. These products are almost always found in vehicles, such as cars and trucks. Sometimes there is a tendency to leak in the engine and then you can immediately see what damage oil products can cause. A large oil spot with distinctive rainbow colors appears on the road surface and is difficult to get rid of with water. Try to imagine what if such products end up in the environment and affect water and animals. This is why companies that work with oil products are obliged to use a separator. A petrol separator is, for example, widely used in car garages, parking garages, petrol stations and car washes. This prevents petrol and diesel from entering the municipal sewer system or surface water.
How does the oil separator work?
A gasoline separator is also called an oil separator or hydrocarbon separator. Hydrocarbons are the components in crude oil that should absolutely not end up in open water. Together with water and other oil products, these hydrocarbons are discharged as waste water via a concrete tank, the actual petrol separator. Since the density of these hydrocarbons is much lower than water, they will separate in this pit and come to the surface. The separator has an automatic shut-off valve. This valve, also called a float, only floats on the water. The water will be discharged through the exit to the sewer or open water. The more oil that enters the tank, the lower the water level will be. As a result, the float will also sink more and more downwards. At a certain point, he closes the exit and no more water can be drained. This is a sign that the tank is full of hydrocarbon and needs to be cleaned. There are separators with and without sludge trap. Space is then reserved in the pit for sludge that has come along. If this is not present, a separate sludge trap must be installed.

Oil separator standards & regulations according to European legislation:
Since 2006, the national regulations have been replaced by European regulations that apply throughout Europe. With this, all old standards that were in force nationally have expired.
For oil separators, the European standard is EN858-1 (with reference sheet A1) and EN858-2. From September 1, 2006, all oil separators must comply with this and bear a CE mark. From 1 July 2013, the CE marking must be extended with a Declaration Of Performance (DOP). The Declaration Of Performance (DOP) indicates which requirements the product must meet and which test reports are available for the product in question.
An oil separator installation will only suffice if it:
• Is of sufficient capacity (calculated according to EN858-2).
• The system has been set up and is working (according to EN-858-1).
• Timely maintenance and drainage by the recognized bodies.
EN858-1 & EN858-2 in combination with a CE marking and/or a KOMO approval, EC Declaration Of Performance (DOP) gives you as a user the certainty of a properly functioning system.
High quality concrete oil separators at very competitive prices:
DWTN guarantees high quality concrete separators. The housing of the concrete separator consists of a monolithically poured, watertight concrete pit, which is provided with a cover plate. The separator is produced from high-quality concrete and has a watertight connection between the pit and the cover plate by means of a socket/spigot connection (using a supplied sealing ring). The housing is provided with a KIWA certificate based on BRL5070.
The sludge and oil separation zone are hydraulically optimized, so that the separator housing is compact and a high efficiency can still be achieved.
The coalescing filter in a class I version is easily removable for possible cleaning. The coalescing filter is located around the outlet chamber where the optimized float valve is located, which is fitted as standard in a class I & II separator. The efficiency when using a coalescing filter is <5mg/litre.
